Our Aviation History

Throughout World War II, our airport buzzed with activity as brave pilots soared along the Northwest Staging Route, delivering indispensable supplies and personnel to
Alaska and Russia.

In the post-war era, The Airport Chalet thrived as a gathering place for bush pilots. These dauntless aviators significantly contributed to the Yukon’s growth, ferrying people, resources, and equipment to isolated locations across the territory.

The Amenities

Converted from an R.C.A.F. station, the Hanger Café’s open house was attended by about 1,200 people. Highly regarded for the traditional cooking methods used in creating our authentic comfort food, we still have a line-up today.

Mastery of techniques with flattop, charbroiler, smoker, steamer, and convection ovens allow our kitchen to craft heartwarming comfort food dishes that have become perennial favorites.

Savor signature Hanger dishes like BBQ ribs, Polar burger, Clubhouse sandwich, or Taco salad for a memorable culinary experience.

In-flight Refreshments

During aviation’s early days, pilots would sometimes carry a flask of whiskey with them on flights. Similarly, after completing demanding journeys, bush pilots often congregated at The Meeting Room to relax and mingle with fellow aviators.
Nowadays, we uphold this custom by offering refreshments for those catching flights or working unconventional hours. Whether you seek a private space to unwind or a brief respite from a hectic schedule, our in-house off sales are readily available to cater to your needs.

The Hanger Bakery

The Hanger Bakery on the Alaska Highway is a landmark that has been delighting truckers and locals for over half a century. Its freshly baked treats, including cakes, pies, tarts, and cookie bars, have an irresistible aroma that draws in customers from far and wide.
Despite the harsh northern conditions, the bakery maintains its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, providing a warm and friendly atmosphere that has earned it a special place in the hearts of its patrons.
